The U.S. Secretary of Defense, Lloyd J. Austin III, will meet with contemporary officials from the Philippines and the Republic of Korea to strengthen its ties with the nations. “strengthening and bolstering our regional alliances and partnerships to ensure that our combined deterrent is stronger than ever to sustain and ensure regional peace and security. Our network of treaty allies around the world, but particularly in the Indo-Pacific stretching from the East China Sea down to Oceana, is vital to the security and the stability of the region,” says a senior official from the Department of Defense.
