Leon County Schools approves district-wide AI policy for classrooms
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Leon County School Board unanimously passed an artificial intelligence policy Tuesday night. The policy sets clear guidelines for how the technology can be used in classrooms. School board member Rosanne Wood said Leon County Schools is embracing AI as a tool to enhance education. “We’re going to use AI to make things easier, better, and we’ll be teaching our kids a skill that they need to know how to understand this and use it well,” Wood said during the school board meeting. Under the new policy, district employees can use AI for administrative and instructional tasks, including lesson planning, communication and scheduling as long as students’ privacy rights are protected. For students, they cannot use AI as the main way to complete assignments. Unauthorized use can be considered plagiarism, according to the policy. ![]()
