Physical therapy after a surgery consists of a variety of rehab phases. Early in post-operative rehab we focus on reducing swelling and increasing range of motion to the affected body part using a variety of treatment techniques including manual therapy, soft tissue mobility, and stretching. When pain, swelling, and range of motion have improved we begin strengthening the muscles in and around the area to provide stability to the joints, muscles, and ligaments. As muscle strength and endurance continues to improve, then the individual progresses to more functional activities tailored to the needs and goals discussed throughout the rehabilitation process.
