Isaiah 5:8 "Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth!" By coming together in a very large mass of humanity in a very small space, mankind has brought this curse (woe) upon himself. Today we join our houses to each other in our massive cities (Chicago, New York, etc.) to where many young children will grow to adulthood and never experience the freedom and the peace of wide open country spaces. All they will know is the strife on the corner, the drug deals, the murders and all other world ills that go on around them. Every thing in their life is artificial, from their their friends to the food they eat; nothing is done the way God has told us to do it. I wonder why you never hear big city preachers talk about this particular verse? Something to think about. In their cities they have lost the God given sounds of waterfalls, of birds in the wild singing, of seeing the waving of a golden rich field of grain, and all the other pleasures of God's creation. In the place of the earth is concrete and asphalt pavement, plus the walls of high buildings and the sounds of confusion and noise. God is calling this a curse on them for joining house on to house. The result of this curse is the pollution of the air they breath and the water they drink, as well as the ground they walk on. The following verse contains the second “woe” of six that are in this chapter, the others are in 11, 18, 20, 21, and 22; the first “woe” was in verse eight above. Each of these "woes" will cause you to fall out of God's will, and keep you from the blessings of God and bring curses upon yourself. Isaiah 5:11 "Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!" This is the second woe, and it is directed toward those that never quit their drinking and allow it to becomes a very bad habit. A little wine for the stomach is good but when you don't let up it has exactly the opposite effect to your system. An alcoholic or drug addict will lie and steal from you to satisfy his or her habit, but the sad thing is they just can't help themselves; they need to seek help elsewhere. There are groups like the AA [alcoholics anonymous, etc.] that are not a substitute for church, but are a system to help you break the habit of relying on alcohol or drugs. Isaiah 5:18 "Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope." Here is another woe which we are facing in these end times. This is saying that they take a rope to drag sin along with them; far too many will just not let go of it (their sins) and deal with them the way God has given us. A "cart rope" means that it is "sin by the cart load". Not only do they sin, but they are proud of the sins they commit, they flaunt their sins. God is saying woe to you that do this". Isaiah 5:20 "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!" Isaiah 5:21 "Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!" Isaiah 5:22 "Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:" Isaiah 5:23 "Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!" (Doesn’t this sound familiar? Today [2021, 2022, +] many politicians reward the wicked and punish the ones doing right; 180 degrees out of kilter isn’t it). These last woes are quite common today to those that follow a so called political correctness versus a moral correctness; they turn everything upside down or 180 degrees out of kilter. Many take the things relating to Satan and call it of God then they take the truths of God and call them the doctrines of Satan. Satan is darkness (falseness) and God is of the light (truth). The above verses help us a great deal in being able to see how upside down everything is today in 2023. Is that a reason to just give up? No way! We must keep fighting the fight. See the following verses: Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. 2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: James 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. “City life: Millions of people being lonesome together.” Henry David Thoreau | |
