When does a Medicare coverage become inactive?
There are a few reasons why a person’s Medicare Benefits may become inactive: • Non-payment of premiums: If a person does not pay their Medicare premiums, their coverage can be discontinued. • Moving out of the country: Medicare does not provide coverage if you move outside the United States: • Incarceration: If a person is incarcerated and in a federal prison, the benefits will stop, but resume coverage upon release. Note: If a person’s Medicare coverage is discontinued, they may be able to re-enroll during the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) or a Special Enrollment Period (SEP).
