Try the spirits! | |
This is a KJV Bible study guide. 1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 1 John 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. [Don't believe everything you hear just because someone says it is in the word of God. It is your responsibility to verify it one way or the other; check it out for yourself in God's word. There are a lot of false prophets, teachers, pastors, etc. in the world. The reason for testing the spirits, for testing all religious teaching is to see if it is truly from God or if it is a lie from Satan and his servants. If you become familiar with God's Word, through personal study, you will not be deceived. See 1 Thessalonians 5:21. Hold on to that which is good, but discard the rest]. Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. [The people of Berea were more open minded and listened to the teachings of Paul and Silas. Why? Because they searched the scriptures daily and found out what they were teaching was true. A good example for all of us! Never believe any man or woman without checking them out in the Word of God yourself. See 1 John 4:1 above, again; also see Jeremiah 17:5]. Studying God’s word is not an easy task; it takes a lot of diligence on your part. There is a right way and a wrong way to study the Bible. Use all the tools available today to help you study according to your personal appetite for study; no two people are exactly the same. The more truth you learn your appetite increases for even more from God’s word. You will truly be amazed by what you can learn on your own; you can learn things you will never hear while sitting in a church pew. Truth comes from God’s word, not the words of a human. Where should you put your trust? In God and His Word or man? Read the following 2 verses for your answer. Jeremiah 17:5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD." Jeremiah 17:7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is."
